Club Report Winter 2006

Our second trial of the year with Judge Jan Hrouda was held on September 30th with 6 entries but only 3 successful competitors. First up were Debbie Brisson from Dryden and her GSC Draco. Congratulations for successfully completing your BH and thanks for supporting our trial. Claire did not compete but graciously offered to do a fake BH with Cabre while Debbie had Draco in a long down. Cabre was as entertaining as ever and even managed a pass (barely) from the Judge.

Bob and Damma had an excellent trial coming away with a SchH 2 score of 269 and High in Trial. Pino and Zeus were the third successful team, attaining their SchH 3. Good job Pino, and to think the skeptics said it would never happen!

Thanks to Jan Hrouda for coming back to Thunder Bay and making our trial a fun and informative time. It’s always a pleasure Jan.

Congratulations to the rest of the competitors who weren't successful this time around. Also a big thank you to all those who helped out, either as trial secretaries, cooks, group, set up or tracklayers, and to Pino and Sherrel for letting us use your home Friday and Saturday night for dinners.

A very special thanks to John Carvalho who toughed it out with an injured back to work Bob's dog, and to Bob McGonigal for doing the rest of the helper work. Without them we could not have had a trial.

One more road trip was in order. Claire and I drove to Winnipeg to watch Bob and Damma enter the SchH Manitoba Halloween Trial on October 27th and 28th where they achieved their SchH 3 under Judge Frank Mensing. It was so cold that Frank’s boots gradually disintegrated throughout the day to the point where the soles cracked and fell off. Here’s hoping Frank has invested in a pair of REAL winter boots because at the time of this report, Vancouver is having a taste of true winter with about a foot of snow. Conversely, we are still training outdoors in reasonably warm weather.

SchH Manitoba held a Halloween Party Saturday night with lots of Great Costumes. Claire, Bob and I went as our scary selves. Thanks to SchH Manitoba for their warm hospitality.

We are still training Saturdays at the club until the snow comes but after a long season, we are all looking forward to Christmas break.

Our young dogs are coming along nicely and there should be two or three BH’s to start off next year and hopefully several entrants for Regionals and Nations. I even get to compete again after 2 years of rooting everybody else on.

Hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and a Very Happy New Year!
