Club Report Fall 2005
O
ur second trial of 2005 was a resounding success with six out of 7 participants achieving their goals.
With Judge Dave Grant presiding, we set out for the tracking field Saturday morning with Lol and Dakota drawing the first SchH 1 track. The start was a little shaky with a hitch or two in the middle but they finished with a passing score and a big sigh of relief that phase one was over.
Trish and Kassie were up next and looking great down the first leg and around corner number one. Half way down the second leg Kassie platzed on the article or so we thought. Trish dropped the line and approached Kassie to pick up the article. From a distance we couldn’t see exactly what happened but things were taking just a bit too long se we figured there was a wee problem. There was Trish, ass up head down groping around under her dog for the article all the while cursing under her breath and threatening to throttle Kassie if she dared to get up. Trish finally stood up empty handed and shrugged at the Judge sheepishly. Meanwhile Kassie was now twisted around like a pretzel facing backwards pointing at Trish’s foot. Finally Trish notices these antics and lifted up her foot. Yep, she had been standing on the article the whole time. Good job Dave for not cracking up until after the track was over. Oh yah, Trish and Kassie passed as well in spite of the unique article indication.
Third up were Claire and Cabre doing their SchH 2 track. All went fairly well until the last corner where Cabre lost the track and took advantage of the full leash length to find it again. Whew, another pass on the books.
We all headed back to the club grounds where the BH’s went off without a hitch with all four BH competitors getting positive comments from Dave.
Congratulations to Bob and Damma, John and Samson, Pino and Zeus and Sherrel and Gamma for your successful BH’s.
Claire and Lol were paired up for obedience with Claire and Cabre pulling off an 86. Lol entered the trial to gain experience knowing full well that because a couple of exercises weren’t quite finished, she might not pass. The gamble didn’t pay off, with her obedience score just missing by a hair but we couldn’t have been more proud of Lol for the way she handled herself and her dog on the field. An excellent SchH 1 protection routine with a score of 90 more than made up for the miss in obedience. We know you’ll do it in September Lol.
Claire and Cabre also got a 90 in protection and Trish and Kassie pulled off an 81.
Many thanks to John Carvalho for the excellent helper work. The catches on Cabre and Dakota were awesome.
Thanks also to Bob for setting the SchH 2 track and thanks to Cathy Winko for standing in as trial secretary while Trish and Sherrel competed.
The food was great as usual and much comradery and sportsmanship abounded. The weather was super except for a short shower when everyone watched from the clubhouse as Dave worked a couple of dogs in the rain.
We would especially like to thank Dave Grant for a fun and relaxed trial and for his thorough and informative critiques.
We’re all looking forward to hosting our third trial in September with Judge Jan Hrouda. Six or seven of our Schutzhund friends from Winnipeg are planning to make the trip to Thunder Bay so it promises to be a great time. See you in September.
Congratulations again to Team Canada and Good Luck at the Worlds.
