elcome to the on-line home of The Thunder Bay Schutzhund Club. We have been an active club in North Western Ontario since our accreditation in 1996. We train 3 times a week and welcome visitors with prior notice. We hope you enjoy our site and if you have any questions please feel free to contact us.
The sport of Schutzhund is a form of recreation and is also a competitive sport which originated in Germany around the turn of the century. It consists of three phases: Tracking, Obedience and Protection.
There were informal matches to begin with until Max von Stephanitz, through the founding of the “SV”, (the German Shepherd Dog Club of Germany) created a formal structure to evaluate the working ability and temperament of the German Shepherd Dog.
A good Schutzhund dog is a friendly and good-natured member of the family, an obedient and dependable companion and courageous and reliable protector.
